Previous to studying Web Design with Selkirk College - October 1988, I was employed by Quintette Coal Ltd. (aka: Quintette Operating Ltd). It was Canada's largest Open-Pit coal mine. I worked 4-days on, then 4-days off, 12 hour shifts until June 1999. I worked as a Labourer in the Welding Shop for 3.5 years, Janitor, Equipment Operator and lastly as a high-pressure "Steam Bay" Attendant. It was very hard, dirty work! I high-pressure steamed all the mine equipment. Below is a picture of a 170 ton WABCO Hual-Pac truck. The tires alone on these trucks are over 10-feet tall.

I incurred a major Knee injury on the job in 1989 and pretty much made it hold off as long as I could. Evidently, I lost my right 'knee' cap in 1996, due to my 1989 injury. I bounced back very well from the removal of it, even the Specialists were impressed!! I had to work hard to rehabilitate but I did it. I had to seriously think about re-training.
In the fall of 2000, I started searching College's online to find what might best suit me. Then I found the "Online Ecommerce program that Selkirk College offers. Dec 2000 I started Level I of the program and graduated in June 2001, with a 4.0 Grade Average. It was challenging & rewarding. Which lead me to enroll in the current 2002 Level II program. I'm really enjoying it!!
Other Experience:
 | Alberta Wheat Pool I worked for the Alberta Wheat Pool. I weighed and purchased grain from local farmers in the Dawson Creek area. I processed the grain purchased for shipment to Ridley Island, via BC Rail. It was an interesting position.
